Dock Cottage - About Us

New owners of Dock Cottage

Our journey from visitors to owners

Hello, we are Sian and Matt and in September 2024 we became the new owners of Dock Cottage, in Robin Hood's Bay, North Yorkshire.  We took over the reins from Sue and Nick Hall who had it in their family for 70 years. This is our story.........

Our Story

Hi, we're Sian and Matt, and in September 2024, we were thrilled to become the lucky owners of Dock Cottage, seaside holiday cottage in Robin Hood’s Bay, North Yorkshire.  We could not be better located - we are right on the Dock in Robin Hood’s Bay.

Our love affair with Robin Hood's Bay began about 25 years ago when we visited as a young couple on a weekend getaway. It was October, and I remember sitting in the Bay Hotel, watching the waves crash against the sea wall, there was something truly magical about it. We were hooked.  From that moment, it became our favourite time of year, watching the sea roar, sitting by a log fire with a glass of wine.

Year after year, we found ourselves drawn back. We returned time and time again, first with friends, then with our children, and in the summer of 2024, our daughter worked at the Brambles Bistro, further strengthening our tie to the place.

So, when Dock Cottage came up for sale after 70 years, it wasn’t a question of "should we?" but "why shouldn’t we?" and "could we?" It's such a magnificent and iconic building, right on the Dock, with sea views that are absolutely breathtaking. You can sit in the lounge and watch the world go by and people-watching to your heart’s content, as the sea rolls in and out.

Why stay at Dock Cottages?  Well the location is truly special and they do say 'Location, location, location.'  Going to sleep with the sound of the sea is pure magic, and seeing sunrises from the cottage windows are something else, definitely worth waking up early for. Although, I must admit, we haven’t quite managed many 4:30am sunrises!

We love to walk and being so close to the beach and on the Cleveland Way it is ideal.  I think our favourite walk, straight from the cottage, is the cliff top walk to Whitby.  Although if we fancy a shorter walk we walk along to beach to Boggle Hole or continue to Ravenscar.

We’re so excited to share Dock Cottage with you and spread the magic of Robin Hood's Bay, it is such a beautiful place. We hope you fall in love with it as much as we have.  If you see us on the beach with our dogs, please say hi, we love to chat.

We look forward to welcoming you to Dock Cottage.
