“As bold, bright, and full of character as Robin Hood’s Bay itself.”

Sometimes the stars align and that’s exactly what happened a week or two ago with me at Dock Cottage and Baytown Coffee.

I’d been thinking it was about time to showcase more local products in Dock Cottage, so I reached out to Baytown Coffee (hand roaster in Whitby) to ask if they supplied coffee for holiday cottages. Well my timing couldn't have been better. The lovely Brooke from Baytown Coffee called me straight back to me to say they were just about to launch a brand-new coffee at the start of October.

And would you believe it… it’s called ‘The Dock’

Their Facebook and Instagram followers had voted, hands down, to name the new guest coffee The Dock — tying in perfectly with our very own Dock Cottage. We hatched a plan, and if you’ve seen the launch on lnstgram, you’ll know there’s no better place to unveil The Dock coffee than on the steps of Dock Cottage, overlooking the dock in Robin Hood’s Bay.

Dock Coffee Was Meant to Be

I honestly feel The Dock coffee was meant to be, and we couldn’t not have it in the cottage for our guests to enjoy.

It’s currently a guest coffee, available for a short time only (maybe we should start a petition to keep it longer?). You’ll find it in the cottage when you visit, the perfect start to a morning as you watch the sunrise from the cottage windows and the sea crash against the sea wall.

If you’d like to take some home, you can find it at Brambles Bistro and Baytown Stores here in the Bay. And if you’re not local, don’t worry — you can buy it online and enjoy a little taste of Robin Hood’s Bay wherever you are. A little tip if you've not tried their coffee before, sign up at the bottom of their website and you'll get 10% off your first order.

About Baytown Coffee

If you haven’t heard of Baytown Coffee, they’re a brilliant local, independent, family-run business based just down the road in Whitby. They champion fairness, sustainability and giving back to the community (they organise the beach clean up on Robin Hoods Bay beach).

They’re passionate about great coffee and work directly with independent overseas farmers, ensuring growers are paid above Fairtrade minimums for their premium-quality beans. Each batch is hand-roasted in their own roastery which, used to be an old cowshed.

The Origin of Dock Coffee

The beans in The Dock coffee come from El Nido Farm in La Unión, Nariño, Colombia. Situated 1,800 metres above sea level, the growing conditions are perfect for producing bright, complex coffees that really sing in the cup.

What It Tastes Like

The Dock is smooth, sweet, and beautifully balanced.

  • Drink it black, and you’ll discover a crisp, fruity flavour.

  • Add milk, and it softens into a caramel-orange richness, ideal for relaxing by the log burner and watching the waves crash up the dock.

Key Flavour Notes:

  • Nectarine – juicy and bright

  • Orange – zesty and refreshing

  • Caramel – sweet and smooth

How to Brew the Perfect Dock Coffee (in Dock Cottage, of course)

  1. Boil the kettle and preheat the cafetière with a little hot water.

  2. Add around 3 teaspoons of coffee.

  3. Pour in a small amount of boiling water to bloom the coffee grounds, stir, and leave for 30 seconds.

  4. Fill to the top, wait 3 minutes (it’ll be worth it!).

  5. Gently press down the plunger, pour, and enjoy on the sofa with the sea view.

Fancy Giving It a Try?

The Dock coffee is available for a limited time in the cottage. It’s the perfect start (or end!) to a day in Robin Hood’s Bay. If you are not a coffee drinker don't worry we also have Yorkshire Tea!

And if you love it as much as we do, share your thoughts with Baytown Coffee — who knows, maybe we can convince them to keep The Dock on the menu a little longer!
