Red poppies are placed on a memorial wall with engraved names, conveying a somber mood. The bright flowers contrast with the gray background.

There’s something truly special about Robin Hood’s Bay—a place steeped in history, community, and breath taking beauty. This year, we have the chance to come together for a meaningful project to mark a significant milestone: 80 years since the end of World War II.

The vision? A stunning cascade of poppies flowing from the bell tower of St Stephen’s Church, on Thorpe Lane in Robin Hood's Bay, creating a moving tribute to those who served and sacrificed. But to make this vision a reality, we need thousands of handmade knitted or crocheted poppies—and this is where you come in!

Be Part of Something Special in Robin Hood's Bay

Do you knit or crochet, or even know someone who does? Imagine if every visitor to Robin Hood’s Bay made just one poppy. Together, we could create a breath taking display at St Stephen’s Church.

Whether you’re an experienced crafter, just starting out or fancy learning a new skill, every poppy counts. It’s a simple yet powerful way to contribute, connect, and leave a little piece of yourself in the Bay. We have patterns that we can share with you, or you are welcome to use your own.

How You Can Get Involved

  • If you’re staying at Dock Cottage, we’ve made it easy—you’ll find everything you need to make a poppy during your stay.

  • If you’d like to start before you arrive (or continue after you leave!) that would be fantastic, it’s a great way to use up leftover wool and get creative.

  • Not staying with us? No problem! Drop us a message, and we’ll send you a pattern (if needed) and the address to post your poppies to.

Poppy Knitting and Crochet Patterns

This is more than just a craft project—it’s a chance to honour history, celebrate community, and create something truly memorable.

Thank you for being part of it. We can’t wait to see your poppies!
