Thinking of a holiday in Robin Hood’s Bay? If so, the chances are you’ll be on the lookout for a cottage with parking. Free parking in the village is limited, and while you might get lucky and find a space by the church, more often than not you’ll need to pay for parking, especially in the busier months.

Cottages with Parking – What Are Your Options?

There are a number of cottages with parking in Robin Hood’s Bay, and Dock Cottage is lucky to be one of them, with our own private parking space included. When looking for a holiday cottage here, you’ll generally find that cottages with parking fall into three main categories:

1. Council Permit Parking

Some cottages offer a permit for one of the council-run car parks in the upper village. These are Bank Top (opposite The Victoria Hotel) or Station Road (by The Grosvenor Hotel). While a permit doesn’t guarantee a space, you’ll usually find one, particularly in Station Road car park. These are great options, especially in the off-season when parking is free from October to March.

Both car parks use the RingGo app, so you can top up your parking from your phone without having to rush back. Just look out for the car park codes:

  • Station Road Car Park – 4641

  • Bank Top Car Park – 4640

Bank Top also offers four electric vehicle charging bays and both have two disabled parking bays (please note: Blue Badge holders are not exempt from charges here).

2. Fisherhead Private Parking

Some holiday cottages come with a permit for Fisherhead car park, located in the lower village, which means you do not need to negotiate the hill! This privately-owned car park is now fitted with ANPR cameras, so it’s essential to only park here if your cottage provides a valid Fisherhead permit, as they will issue fines.

To find it, drive down into the Bay, past The Laurel Inn and Muir Lea Stores, and turn right through the farm gate on the bend. Once your car is parked you will need to head to your cottage to pick up the permit to display in your car. Please also remember to log your car registration on the system (details will be in your cottage).

3. Private Parking – Like Dock Cottage

And then there are the real gems – the rare few cottages with private parking exclusively for guests. Dock Cottage falls into this category. Our guests benefit from a dedicated parking space at the top of the village, reserved just for them.

You’re welcome to drive down to the cottage to unload right outside the door, then simply park your car up in your private space. It makes coming and going during your stay hassle-free, with no worries about where you’ll park when you return from a day out.

No Parking? Here’s What You Can Do

If your chosen holiday cottage doesn’t have parking, don’t worry, you can still use the two council car parks mentioned above. They tend to be free in winter months and you can pay for your parking via RingGo app if needed.

Alternatively, if you're just visiting for the day from Whitby or Scarborough, skip the parking altogether and hop on the X93/X94 bus, which drops you off on Thorpe Lane, closer to the heart of the village than some of the car parks. There’s only one bus stop, so it’s easy to find.

In Summary

Robin Hood’s Bay has been around long before cars, so it wasn’t exactly designed with drivers in mind. However, that is the charm of it. Finding a cottage with parking in Robin Hood’s Bay can make all the difference to your holiday, especially if you’re planning to explore the coast by car. Whether it's council permit parking, a space at Fisherhead, or the convenience of your own private bay like we offer at Dock Cottage, there are several options to suit different needs.
