We’re absolutely delighted to share that Dock Cottage has been recognised by the North York Moors National Park as a Walking Friendly cottage.

If you’re planning a walking holiday in Robin Hood’s Bay, you’ll be pleased to know that the North York Moors is one of the finest places in the country for exploring on foot. From dramatic coastal paths to peaceful moorland trails, there’s a walk for every pace—and Dock Cottage, on the Cleveland Way is a perfect base.

Why Dock Cottage is Perfect for Walkers

As part of the Walking Friendly network, we’ve made sure Dock Cottage is a welcoming spot to rest and recharge after a day out walking. Here’s what makes us a top choice for Cleveland Way accommodation and Coast to Coast walkers:

  • Prime location – We’re right on the Cleveland Way and at the end of the iconic Coast to Coast walk, making Dock Cottage a perfect stop-off (or celebration spot at the finish line).

  • Muddy boots welcome – We’ve got a separate entrance into a tiled kitchen—ideal for taking off your boots after a long walk.

  • Drying rack & coat hooks – Handy for wet gear, especially during the more ‘British’ weather days.

  • Walking guides and OS maps – Free to borrow and full of local inspiration straight from the cottage.

  • First aid kit – Just in case.

You can see our full listing, along with other walking friendly accommodation providers in the North York Moors, on the North York Moors National Park website.

Walks We Love: Robin Hood’s Bay to Whitby

One of our all-time favourite walks is the stunning coastal route from Robin Hood’s Bay to Whitby. You can set off straight from Dock Cottage—just head up the hill and follow signs for the Cleveland Way or the Cinder Track.

  • The Cleveland Way is a cliff-top walk with breathtaking views of the coast. It’s a bit hilly in places, but so worth it for the scenery.

  • The Cinder Track follows the old railway line. It’s flatter and more relaxed, ideal if you fancy an easier stroll. It is also great for dogs (just keep an eye out for cyclists)

We’ve put together a helpful guide to local walks on our Walks Around Robin Hood’s Bay page, so be sure to have a browse before you head to Robin Hood's Bay.
