Directions

Top of Robin Hood's Bay

Begin at the top of Robin Hood’s Bay and make your way down the steep, winding hill. Enjoy the picturesque views as you descend.

Old Coastguard Station

As you reach the bottom, keep an eye out for the National Trust’s Old Coastguard Station on your right. If you have some extra time, the visitor center is worth a stop; entry is free and it offers interesting insights into the area’s maritime history.

Accessing the Beach

Continue down the slipway, then turn right onto the beach. **Important:** Before heading this way, check the tide times to ensure you’re walking at low tide as the tide can come in very quickly.

Along the Beach

Stroll along the sandy beach until you reach the inlet—this is Boggle Hole. According to local legend, mischievous little beings known as hobgoblins, or “Boggles,” once inhabited the caves here.

Refreshments at the YHA

Head up toward the Youth Hostel Association (YHA) building. If you’re feeling thirsty or hungry, stop in for some refreshments.

Clifftop Return

After your pitstop, make your way back to Robin Hood’s Bay along the clifftops. Walk through the YHA and pick up the Cleveland Way.

The Climb

Ascend the steep steps leading up from the YHA. The effort is rewarded with breath-taking views of the coastline, so take a moment to catch your breath and appreciate the scenery.

Following the Cleveland Way

Stick to the Cleveland Way, following the signs as you journey back to Robin Hood’s Bay. The path is well-marked and offers more stunning views along the way.
